Health insurance for the Spanish
Digital Nomad Visa.

You work remotely, you want to live in Spain, and the DNV looks like the cleanest route. The health insurance requirement is where a lot of applicants slow down — Spain won't accept your international traveller cover, and the wording on the certificate has to be exact.

I set up DNV policies every week.

I'm Yana — official Sanitas agent, nationwide. English-speaking, personal, and available on WhatsApp before, during and after your policy is set up.

If your DNV submission is close, tell me — I can prioritise the paperwork so it's ready in time.

Everything you need to know

Five questions before you apply.

The practical answers every DNV applicant asks me. If your question isn't here, ping me on WhatsApp — I answer every one myself.

What health insurance do I need for the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa?

Spain's DNV is a bit more flexible than the NLV on health insurance — but the safest approach is still a full comprehensive private policy from a Spanish-authorised insurer. That satisfies every DNV pathway I've seen. Travel insurance and short-term international policies are not accepted, even ones marketed at "digital nomads".

What normally gets required:

  • Sin copagos — zero co-payments or deductibles.
  • Sin carencias — full cover from day one, no waiting periods.
  • Full cover equivalent to the Spanish public health system (medical, surgical, hospital, emergency).
  • Repatriation cover — expected on most DNV applications.

A quick note: your nationality can shift the exact recommendation slightly. Tell me where you're applying from when we chat, and I'll make sure the policy I recommend fits your specific case.

Sanitas Residents Visado meets the standard DNV requirements out of the box.

Which Sanitas policy works for the Digital Nomad Visa?

Sanitas Residents Visado is the standard DNV policy — no copay, no waiting periods, repatriation included, full cover through the Sanitas network in Spain.

For American clients, Sanitas Residents Platinum adds full USA cover up to €500,000 and 90% worldwide reimbursement. Same visa-compliance, wider net.

I'll help you decide based on your age, city and situation.

What documents do I receive for my DNV application?

Once your policy is activated, you'll receive all the documents required for your DNV application — in both Spanish and English.

The official Certificado de Seguro arrives as a PDF within 24–48 hours (Spanish, as required for the application file). I also send you the same document in English — so you can actually read what's covered, double-check the details, and know exactly what you're handing over.

Can I arrange the policy before I arrive in Spain?

Yes — and you should.

You don't need a NIE or a Spanish bank account. I set up the policy using your passport number, and Sanitas accepts international payment methods (Wise, Revolut, standard cards from any country). Your Certificado de Seguro is ready before your application is filed, whether you're applying from abroad or already in Spain.

What if I travel a lot for work as a digital nomad?

For most digital nomads, Sanitas Residents Visado is enough. It already covers emergencies abroad for up to 90 days per trip, with €12,000/yr worldwide emergency cover. That handles client trips, family visits, holidays — the normal life of a nomad based in Spain.

Sanitas Residents Platinum is specifically my recommendation for American clients, because it adds full USA cover up to €500,000 — critical if you go back to visit family or work in the States. For non-American nomads, Residents Visado does the job and the extra cost of Platinum is rarely worth it.

Tell me your nationality and I'll be straight with you about which one fits.
